Rocket Words

Guess the word in six launches. Daily missions with a streak shield, unlimited practice in 5 or 6 letters, archive, hints, expert mode and stats that travel with you.

What is Rocket Words?

Rocket Words is a word-guessing game with a rocket theme. You have six launches to find the secret word. After each guess the tiles turn green for a letter in the right place, yellow for a letter in the word but elsewhere, and gray for a letter that isn't in the word. Everyone gets the same Daily mission; Unlimited mode deals fresh words in five or six letters whenever you want to keep flying; Archive lets you replay any past daily.

It was designed around what people love about daily word games and what drives them up the wall: a streak that doesn't vanish because you crossed a time zone, a way to practise without spoiling the daily, clear information about repeated letters, hints when you're truly stuck, a real expert mode, and stats you can back up and carry to another device. No account, no ads.

How to play Rocket Words

  1. Type a word of the right length and press Launch (Enter). Only real words are accepted; the dictionary has around 16,000 five-letter and 30,000 six-letter words.
  2. Read the colours: green is correct and in place, yellow is in the word elsewhere, gray is not in the word.
  3. Narrow it down guess by guess. The keyboard remembers what you've learned and shows a count badge when a letter is proven to repeat.
  4. Solve it within six launches. The rocket fuels up with every guess and lifts off when you win.
  5. Stuck? Mission Control can reveal one letter, twice per game. Results then show a 💡 so shares stay honest.

Rocket Words tips and strategy

  • Open with a word full of common letters and two different vowels.
  • Use the second guess to test new letters instead of chasing one green.
  • Watch the repeat badges: when the keyboard says E ≥2, stop testing single-E words.
  • Trap words with many look-alikes (river, liver, diver) are where runs die. In Unlimited, the Casual pool leaves them out; Brutal is nothing but them.
  • Expert mode forbids reusing gray letters and re-placing a yellow in the same spot, which forces disciplined guessing. Turn it on when hard mode stops feeling hard.

Streak shield: no more lost streaks

Daily streaks break for the wrong reasons: travel across time zones, a browser clearing its data, one busy day. Rocket Words counts streaks on your local calendar date, and every seven daily wins in a row earn a streak shield that automatically absorbs one missed day. Backups let you carry your stats and streak to a new phone or browser with a single code.

Daily, Unlimited and Archive

Daily is one shared word a day with the streak and the emoji share grid. Unlimited is for practice and for people who want more: pick five or six letters and a word pool from Casual (common words, no repeats, no traps) to Brutal (only repeat-letter and trap words). Archive replays any past daily mission with its own record, without touching your daily streak.

Hard mode and expert mode

Hard mode is the familiar rule: greens must stay in place and yellows must be reused. Expert adds two more: letters proven absent can't be played again, and a yellow letter can't be placed in a position where it already turned yellow. It turns the game from deduction into discipline.

How repeated letters are scored

Each letter in the answer satisfies only one tile of your guess. Exact matches are awarded first, then the leftover letters of the answer go to yellow tiles from left to right. If the answer has one E and you guess a word with two, one E is coloured and the other is gray. The keyboard shows a badge such as E =1 or E ≥2 once the clues prove a count, so you never have to work it out by hand.

Accessibility

A high-contrast mode swaps green and yellow for orange and blue, every tile carries a screen-reader label, and the whole game works with a physical keyboard or on-screen keys.
