Glowgram: the Neon Triangle Tangram Puzzle

A neon tangram-style puzzle: fit glowing triangle pieces into a square. Endless puzzles from Easy to Expert, a daily puzzle, and races against a computer racer or a friend.

What is Glowgram?

Glowgram is a tangram-style shape-fitting puzzle with a neon glow, free in your browser on phone, tablet or computer. The board is a square cut into triangles: every cell is split corner to corner both ways. Beside it sits a tray of colourful pieces made of those triangles. Drag them in, turn them, and fit every one so the square is filled exactly, with no gaps and no overlaps.

There are four levels and they never run out. Easy is a 4×4 square with five chunky pieces you can finish in under a minute. Medium turns every piece. Hard cuts the pieces from single triangles and has exactly one solution. Expert spreads eleven pieces over a 6×6 square and makes you flip some over. Every puzzle is numbered, so you can send a friend puzzle #42 and compare times.

How to play Glowgram

  1. The goal: move every piece from the tray onto the square so the square is completely covered.
  2. Drag a piece onto the square. It snaps to the triangle grid, and a dashed ghost shows where it will land. If it doesn't fit, it bounces back.
  3. Turn a piece by tapping it, right-clicking, pressing R or using the Turn button. While you drag, a second finger or the mouse wheel turns it too. At Expert, Flip (or F) mirrors it.
  4. Drag a piece off the square to put it back in the tray. Undo takes back your last move and Clear empties the square.
  5. Stuck? A hint puts one piece in its correct place: two per puzzle at Easy, one at Medium, none at Hard or Expert. The clock starts with your first move.

Glowgram tips and strategy

  • Start with the corners and edges. A piece with a long straight side or a right-angled corner usually belongs against the frame.
  • Place the biggest, most awkward piece first. Small ones fit whatever space is left.
  • Count triangles. Every gap you leave has to be filled by some piece in the tray, so a lonely triangle walled in on three sides means a piece is in the wrong place.
  • At Hard, watch for mirror-image twins. Two pieces can look alike but only turn one way each, and only one of them fits.
  • At Expert, flip a piece when no turn of it matches the gap. Flipping is the move most players forget.

A tangram puzzle on a triangle grid

Classic tangram puzzles ask you to arrange seven fixed pieces into a silhouette. Glowgram keeps the spirit of dissection puzzles but changes the rules: the target is always a square, the pieces change with every puzzle, and everything snaps to a grid of right-angled triangles. That grid keeps every fit crisp: edges line up and you always know whether a piece sits right.

Our generator cuts the square into pieces of similar size, never repeats a shape, and runs an exact solver over every puzzle before you see it. Hard and Expert puzzles have exactly one solution, and the harder levels keep the puzzles with the most tempting dead ends.

Daily puzzle and races

A new daily puzzle arrives every midnight, the same for everyone: Easy on Monday, Medium on Tuesday and Wednesday, Hard on Thursday and Friday and Expert at the weekend. Solve it to grow your streak, see your days on the calendar and catch up on any day you missed. Your time goes on today's leaderboard.

Race mode puts a computer racer on the same square, from Easy to Insane, and its square fills up above yours as it goes. Online, race another person on the same puzzle: quick match, or invite a friend with a link or code, then ask for a rematch.

Glowgram FAQ

Is Glowgram free to play?

Yes. It's completely free in your browser with no download and no account. Make a free account if you want your times on the leaderboards.

Is this the same as a tangram?

It's a tangram-style dissection puzzle: you fit flat pieces together into a shape without overlaps. Unlike the classic seven-piece set, Glowgram's pieces are new in every puzzle, they're built from triangles on a grid, and the target is always a square.

How do I rotate or flip a piece?

Tap a piece, right-click it, press R or use the Turn button to turn it a quarter turn. While dragging, use a second finger or the mouse wheel. Flipping (F, Shift + right-click or the Flip button) is only allowed at Expert.

Does every puzzle have a solution?

Always. Each puzzle is cut from a filled square, and a solver checks it before you play. Hard and Expert puzzles have exactly one solution.

How many hints do I get?

Two per puzzle at Easy, one at Medium and none at Hard or Expert. A hint places one piece in its correct position. Undo, Clear or reloading never gives a hint back.

What's the difference between the levels?

Easy is a 4×4 square with five pieces made of half-cell triangles, mostly already turned the right way. Medium is 5×5 with seven turned pieces. Hard uses nine pieces cut from single triangles with one solution, and Expert has eleven pieces on a 6×6 square, some of which must be flipped.

Can I play the same puzzle as a friend?

Yes. Every puzzle has a number, the same for everyone, and Share sends a link to it. The daily puzzle is also the same for all players, and online races put you both on one square.

How does the race against the computer work?

You and a computer racer get the same square. The racer places pieces at a pace set by its level, from Easy (relaxed, and it sometimes tries a piece in the wrong place) to Insane (very fast). Its square fills in above yours; the first to fill the square wins.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. Glowgram is built for touch: drag pieces with your finger (they lift above it so you can see the fit), tap to turn, and use Full screen for an app-like view. It also works offline once loaded.
